Why We Started the Homeschool Hive Study Hub

The Homeschool Hive Study Hub was born out of the belief in the power of community learning and a deep connection to nature. Bees, with their intricate and purposeful work within the hive, are a beautiful metaphor for the collaborative and interconnected learning experiences we foster. Much like a hive, our Study Hub brings families together, each contributing their unique energy and curiosity to a collective journey of discovery. We are dedicated to providing a space where children can learn, grow, and explore with intention and purpose, while forming meaningful connections to one another and the natural world.

What Is the Homeschool Hive Study Hub?

At Rewilding Education, we understand the unique needs of homeschoolers, alternative schoolers, and unschoolers because we are part of this community ourselves. We created the Homeschool Hive Study Hub to help families supplement their children’s education in an enriching and meaningful way.

This program offers month-long, hands-on study in nature, designed by Ontario Certified Teachers. Each week, children embark on a guided 2-hour session on the 100+ acres of Moondance Organic Gardens. They have the opportunity to explore, experience, experiment, and express in an array of activities tied to the study’s theme. Whether in the forest, the meadows, or the farm fields, every adventure is carefully crafted to inspire curiosity, discovery, and a deeper connection to the environment.

Balancing Structure and Free Exploration

While our core philosophy at Rewilding Education emphasizes free play, child-led learning, and imagination, the Homeschool Hive Study Hub offers a slightly more structured experience. Children still follow their natural curiosity, but this program introduces guided lessons and hands-on activities to deepen their engagement with the month’s topic.

Each pod’s journey is an intentional exploration, rooted in the wild and wonder of the natural world. Together, children observe, question, and learn, much like bees collecting nectar to create something greater than themselves.

Adventure Spaces

The Hive’s activities rotate through diverse learning environments, including:

  • The Greenhouse: A space for observation and growing hands-on learning.

  • The Heated Yurt: A cozy haven for gathering and reflection.

  • Farm Fields & Chicken Coop: Encounters with the rhythms of farm life.

  • The Forest: Immersive exploration among the trees.

We prioritize outdoor learning, regardless of the weather, and encourage families to dress appropriately for seasonal conditions. A handbook will be provided with tips for preparation, including what to wear and bring for comfort during each session.

Why Choose Us?

Learning opportunities can be time-consuming to plan, and sourcing quality resources can be a challenge. We invite families to take a break from creating or teaching and to instead, enjoy learning alongside your child, leaving the hard work to us. Come immerse yourself and your child in the natural world—exploring, learning, and having fun along the way.

At the Hive Study Hub, we strive to create a space that hums with the energy of curiosity and community, where children and families connect deeply to the earth and each other. Like a hive buzzing with life, we learn and grow together in harmony.
